Samsung SmartThings Pro 2024 – Next Big Thing

SmartThings Pro the future of smart homes tech?

Samsung has had its smart things platform for a while. I used it for the first time in 2015 when I bought my first SmartThings hub in the US.

This was before the Home Assistant era and smart homes were still new.

Samsung SmartThings back then was the only smart home hub I was aware of, it had its suite of devices like motion sensors, and compatibility with the Philips Hue lights.

As I was well into the Samsung Ecosystem with almost every device I had being Samsung, the choice was easy.

Even when I moved to Australia and set up my Smart Home system, Smart Things was the first smart home system I opted for. This was until I got to know about Home Assistant.

The Home Assistant has since replaced my main smart home system, with SmartThings restricted to an app on my Samsung S24+.

SmartThings Pro may change that.

Is SmartThings Pro Real

SmartThing Pro’s name was recently registered globally by Samsung, so it seems to be as real as it can be.

Samsung recently submitted the request to submit this name in South Korea, the UK, and the US. With Samsungs recent foray into AI on their latest flagship phones, and rumours of potential AI enhancement of Bixby, it is likely for Smaung to integrate AI into their SmartThings Pro system.

This system is expected to be at a premium, but depending on what they add to the service it might be worth it.

Can SmartThings Pro Replace Home Assistant?

The advantage of the Home Assistant system over any other system right now is the amount of customizability it offers.

Also, the compatibility across devices both WiFi and Zigbee is another factor. Compatibility with both the Zigbee and wifi technologies leads to a much broader selection of devices across brands. This makes the whole process of controlling your smart home devices like lights, switches, vacuums, and other smart home appliances a breeze. And with it being open source, we do not have to wait for the tech to launch in Australia.

Being open source it is ideal for a tinkerer interested in having a smart home system that can be customized to the heart’s content. This overall empowers a user to create a truly personalized experience. I have my whole smart home system set up on a spare mini desktop on a VM, and with every update Home Assistant is getting closer to being a perfect solution to every smart home need.

Samsung SmartThings Pro is unlikely to replace Home Assistant at least right away. But this will most probably complement my existing smart home system by integrating into it.

With time and depending on what is on offer this may become my primary smart home driver.

When is SmartThings Pro Releasing?

The recent submission for registration indicates Samsung Pro is likely to be launched soon. Potentially in the next Samsung Unpacked event in July, where it would launch its next set of flagship phones from the Fold and Flip line.

With AI becoming highly accessible, and smart home tech getting regularly updated, the future looks great for all you smart home enthusiasts out there.

With Apple Homekit, Google Home, Alexa, Aqara, Home Assistant, and a plethora of more upcoming smart home setups the future already looked very exciting. With one of the biggest tech companies planning on reviving a dying system, the future looks even more exciting.

I think we are not far from the world where the home would truly be at our fingertips much like that of Tony Stark
